Day two of our trip to the USL National Finals was a busy day for the boys. After a good night’s sleep we had breakfast at the hotel and after a quick meeting we all piled in the vans and headed for the IMG Academy campus.

Shortly after arriving the boys took to the pitch to warm up for their first match of group play, against the Chicago Fire.  After the long day of travel on Wednesday the boys seemed eager to play and came out with great energy. The first half went to Chicago as they scored two goals. The first coming on a nice cross into the box, the second coming with the Fire finding room to work the ball into the box.

After halftime the boys rallied, putting together a string of good chances. Both David Geno and Jeremy Saad had great shots but were denied by the Chicago goalkeeper. Though the team had their chances the Fire’s defense held on to win the match 2-0.

The match was a tough for the boys to swallow as they put forth a great effort during the game and produced good chances in the final third. Many of the boys said they felt they gave Chicago a little too much respect, and that they could have been more aggressive.

After the match we went back to the hotel, the boys got cleaned up, and we headed back to IMG for lunch at the IMG Country Club. The staff at IMG had prepared a great lunch for the guys, which was much need after playing through the heat that morning. We then head back to the hotel for the boys to grab some rest before the USL Player and Coach Reception at the IMG Country Club that evening.

When we returned to IMG we were greeted with leis and live music for the reception. Most of the teams playing in the USL Nation Finals were there from both the men and women’s tables. The night include food and drink for the boys as well as prizes from the USL.

After we returned from the reception a quick team meeting was held, then the boys enjoyed a dip in the hotel pool before heading to their rooms for the evening.

The next day we would play the VSI Tampa at noon.
