It’s that time again for the winter training schedule to come to an end and begin our spring season for 2018. We have had some brutal temperatures over the month of January and I hope we have nothing but warm weather for the rest of the season. The spring training schedule will officially begin February 5th and the training schedule along with the H3 technical and goalkeeper sessions will be posted on the website and our Facebook page.
As many of you know, our long time Director, Derek Broadley, has taken a new role with the Charleston Battery as youth technical director of their Development Academy. We have been lucky to have someone of his qualifications and knowledge in the Knoxville area for the last seven years and create Knoxville Soccer Academy. I have been fortunate enough to work closely with Derek over the past few years to transition into the role of Academy Director and I am excited about the opportunity to continue with the philosophy he started at KSA. The core values and structure of the club will remain in his vision and I look forward to the support of the players, parents, and coaches. Derek will remain active with KSA as our Executive Director, but will be working mostly from Charleston in this role. Although he will still be coming back to Knoxville from time to time, please take a moment to come by to thank him and wish him good luck on his new venture before he leaves next week.
Since Derek is joining the Battery in Charleston, we are going to move away from our partnership with GIS and the Rangers. We will now develop a connection with the Battery and our first step is sending a couple of teams down to the Charleston Battery Challenge Cup in February. Along with getting to play at a world class facility, the parents and players will get the opportunity to take in some preseason MLS games while in Charleston. Some more exciting news for 2018, the annual London trip is taking shape so more information and registration for the trip will be on the website soon. The H3 technical and goal keeper camps will begin February 14th and we will run two sessions this spring, seven weeks in length.
We all know that the weather in this area over the spring is very wet, so make sure the kids have the proper gear to train in the rain and cold over the next couple of months. The spring season is also split up by many holidays and breaks over the course of the season. So please remember to check Team Snap on a regular basis and mark your availability for games and tournaments. As always if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call.
Yours in Soccer,
